Benefits of coloured UPVC Doors vs wooden doors

 

  • No need to repaint UPVC - The surface of a UPVC door does not require painting, whereas a painted wooden door could fade or chip, needing repainting to restore its colour.

  • Easy to clean - Where wooden doors need regular touching up or varnish to stay looking like new, for our UPVCs it takes only a clean cloth and soapy water to wipe down when dirty.

  • Weather resistance - UPVC doors are designed to withstand British weather, rain of shine, repelling rain on the surface and being fade reistant in sunlight. Wooden doors on the other hand are porous, vulnerable to moisture absorption, which in turn can affect the door's performance as it reacts to changing temperatures.

  • Our colours are widely used - The Renolit foils we use for our coloured UPVC doors are also widely used in UPVC windows, making colour matching simple. Because we use standardised colours, minor touch-ups are easier to make should they be necessary. As painted wooden doors do not follow a standard, it is more difficult to perform seamless touch-ups.

Should I replace frames, toplights and side panels along with Upvc Doors?

 

  • The frame must be replaced - Because a UPVC door is tailor-made to size, it is essential to replace the frame as well. A new door and frame built for each other will provide reliable security and energy efficiency, as the locking mechanisms and weatherseals will correctly line up.

  • A toplight in most cases must be replaced - As a toplight tends to be affixed to the frame, it is necessary to replace this as well. An exception is for a larger toplight, which may be built seperately from the frame, although it is still recommended to replace this to provide harmonious kerb appeal and up-to-date insulation.

  • For a side panel, it depends - A smaller side panel that is part of the door frame will need to be replaced. A larger side panel coupled to the frame can in theory be left alone. However, it is recommend that you also replace this, as the profile will match that of the new door and frame.

  • Cost-cutting vs seamlessness - While it's tempting to save money by leaving an old toplight or side panel in place, it's important to note that a new toplight/side panel will not only match the profile of the door and frame, but will also be purpose-built to match. This means that sizes will be flush, and won't risk leaving gaps for poor insulation.

  • Rosewood - Our darkest woodgrain. Good for classical doors in homes with similar dark wood surround.
  • Golden Oak - Our mid-tone woodgrain. Its appearance is like varnished wood.
  • Irish Oak - The lightest of our woodgrains, with a look like raw wood.
